Biography and speech of Dermot Nesbitt MLA

Dermot Nesbitt is a UUP Assembly Member for South Down. He served first as a Junior Minister in the Office of the First and the Deputy First Minister in the 1998 – 2003 Assembly, and then as Minister for the Environment. He has been actively involved in public life for many years having been a District Councillor as well as a former Chairman of both the South Eastern Education and Library Board and the Board of Governors of Stranmillis College. He served for six years (1992-98) on the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights, which advised the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on human rights.
