Biography and speech of Professor Elizabeth Meehan
Elizabeth Meehan joined Queen’s University as a professor in the School of Politics in 1991 and is now the Director of the Institute of Governance, Public Policy and Social Research. She was first employed in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office - with spells in the Private Office of a Minister of State, the British High Commission in Lagos and the Eastern European and Soviet Department – before going as a ‘mature student’ to Sussex University and Nuffield College Oxford. Her first academic post was at Bath University. She serves on the Management Committee of Bryson House and the Board of Democratic Dialogue. Her research and publications cover: women and politics; European citizenship; citizenship and participation in the UK; constitutional change in the UK; and British-Irish relations.
