Biography and speech of Professor Gerry McCormac
Gerry McCormac is Pro Vice-Chancellor for Community and Communications at Queen’s University. He graduated from the University of Ulster in 1980 and was awarded a PhD in Physics from Queen's in 1984, and then spent several years as a research scientist and a postdoctoral research fellow in the Space Physics Laboratory at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He returned to Queen's in 1989 to take up a lecturer's post in environmental monitoring before becoming a senior lecturer in Palaeoecology. He was appointed Head of the School of Archaeology and Palaeoecology in 1998. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Arts, Manufactures and Commerce and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
